National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certificationnbpts logo

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) has implemented a 5 year “Maintenance of Certification” (MOC). The 5-year MOC replaces the 10 year Renewal option. You can read more about the MOC at the NBPTS website: https://www.nbpts.org/maintenance-of-certification/

Maintaining your National Board Certification is a personal and public statement about your commitment to the profession and to your students. WEA's National Board Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Jump Start is a 1-day training that provides key information to NBCTs planning to undertake the new MOC. This training helps candidates consider their growth and experiences since becoming a NBCT and how to relate this to the MOC requirements.

Online National Board Trainings will be conducted through Zoom. Registrants will receive a follow-up email a few days prior to the training with the Zoom link information. More National Board training information can be found here: https://www.washingtonea.org/pd/certification-licensure/. WEA professional development opportunities are open to WEA members only. If you are a non-member and would like to join, click here to sign up for membership.

Please contact Jim Meadows with any program questions.

WEA National Board Home Stretch

Course concluded. Check back for future dates!

WEA's National Board Home Stretch takes place just before the National Board portfolio is due, when candidates are getting ready to focus their attention on final revisions. At Home Stretch, small like-certificate groups meet with a NBCT Facilitator to read and provide standards-based feedback on the written commentary for Components 2, 3, or 4 using a specially designed protocol. We do our best to have NBCTs in the same certificate area as candidates; however, that’s not always possible based on registration numbers and facilitator availability.

During the morning part of the agenda, candidates receive feedback on Component 2, 3, or 4 written commentary. In the afternoon segment, candidates can opt for feedback on a second component or testing center (Component 1) preparation. 8 clock hours available for attending both morning and afternoon sessions, with 4 hours available for attending one session.

National Board Maintenance of Certificate (MOC) Jump Start

Course concluded. Check back for future dates!

Each module will be an interactive, three-hour virtual training and one hour preparation. Participants can attend one or both modules. Trainers recommend enrolling in Parts 1 and 2 in close proximity to one another to optimize learning connections. Modules are eligible for 4 clock hours.

Module 1 (Overview)
